The Somme - World War One Anzac Battlefields and Memorials - Full Day

The battlefields of the Somme in northwest France are equally important to the shared histories of Australia and New Zealand as the Gallipoli Peninsula. For more than two years, Anzac troops lived and fought in the most unimaginable conditions and suffered horrific casualties. The area contains many sobering reminders of the terrible toll that World War One took on Australia and New Zealand.

The Somme Region and its capital Amiens are only a short train ride from Paris, a reminder of how close the Germans advanced.

Take the earliest train for Amiens out of Paris Gare du Nord. Suggest the 0630 TER 48551.

Arrive at Amiens Station around 0800 where you will be met by your Terres de Memoire Battlefield Tour guide for a One Day Australian War History circuit. Cost 120 Euro per person and bookings are essential.

The alternative is to rent a car for the day at the station and drive to Villers Bretonneux, Le Hamel and Pozieres. Find out more about the World War One Anzac sites and plan your itinerary.
