France is divided into 22 regions, many of which will have familiar names like Brittany, Normandy, Provence, Champagne etc. Each region has a capital and is made up of several departements.
France consists of 100 departements with a prefecture (capital) and a sub prefecture. Departements are made up of subdivisions known as Cantons (rural) and Arrondissements (urban).
