Apple i Phones and travelling

Apple iPhones make travelling and keeping in touch whilst travelling a breeze. The iPhone is a mobile phone and computer rolled into one. Make and receive calls, email, take and send photos, update Facebook, convert currency, navigate cities and check flight times are just some of the things you can use an iPhone for.  

  

  

Internet Options in France

Internet cafes

These are widespread in France and if all you want to do is send the odd email or check your internet banking then this is probably the best option.

One of the downsides to using French internet cafes is that they use French keyboards meaning that the letters are in different places to that of English keyboards.

If you are a heavy internet user and expect to be blogging or facebooking every five minutes then you may need a more reliable solution.

If you BYO laptop then you have several options:

  • Use WiFi hotspots where available
  • Bring a mobile broadband device from home
  • Purchase a prepaid mobile broadband device in France

Local prepaid wireless devices are available through Orange (France Telecom).

They have stores throughout France and even have a vending machine at Paris Charles-de-Gaulle Airport selling prepaid SIM cards and prepaid 3G Internet access  with 3G stick for 49 Euro for 6 months.  

MobilityPass.com sells international broadband modems for laptops with pay as you go rates.   

Wireless Hotspots in France  

Jwire.com has the world's largest listing of wireless hotspots including some 25,000 sites identified in France.  

Boingo.com has pay as you go monthly wifi accounts for laptops and iphones.

Many hotels have free internet for guests.
