Bed and Breakfasts in France are known as Chambres d'Hôtes (guesthouses). There is a huge range of properties throughout France.

There are some wonderful old townhouses, mansions and even chateaux operating as Chambres d'Hôtes throughout France.

Typically they will have between 2 and 5 guest rooms generally with ensuite bathroom.

Depending on seasons and location, prices can be as low as 40 Euro per night double share with breakfast.

Many Chambres d'Hôtes offer dinner for a little extra.

Dont worry if you dont speak French. Many B&B operators are British anyway. It can be a great way to get an insight into local life from an Anglo perspective.

There is even a website dedicated to British owner operator Bed and Breakfasts in France called Anglo French Bed and Breakfast listing properties by region.

Self driving is generally the best way to go to experience B&B accommodation.

Travelling by train and staying in B&Bs is still an option. The French rail systemdoes serve many smaller regional towns.

Examples of some great individual B&Bs

Aux Anges-Gardiens (Guardian Angels) near Beziers in Languedoc-Roussillon is owned and run by an Australian

Bed and Art  in Calvison near Nimes in Languedoc.

Domaine Beauregard in the Camargue region near Arles
